WASHers is back!

Hashing isn't only about being embarassing in public, wearing seriously unflattering jogging togs and drinking too much beer - some hashers drink too much wine, as well. The Wine Appreciation Society of Hashers - "WASHers" - was founded by Wet Wipe of the Bristol Hash House Harriers, the inaugural meeting being held on Thursday 26th May, 2005 at the Clifton Sausage. A lot of wine, (including two re-launches) has been passed since then.

The last WASHers, of which there is no known record, was at Sergio's in Frogmore Street, Bristol, on Friday, 20th July, 2007.

Welcome Autumn with a glass or six of vino, vin, vinho, Wein, gwin, plonk or wine among friends and sympathisers.

Date: Saturday, 30th September 2017. Time: evening.
Place: CJ's Coffee House and Deli, 14 Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol BS2 8DJ.

CJ's is being opened especially for the event! American Supper, so bring a plate of food, along with a bottle of wine to share and appreciate.

Delmonico's, Gloucester Road, Bristol. 17/03/2006.

A select group of WASHers met for this, the seventh meeting.

Those present were Wet Wipe, Sleepy, HBK and Duvet. Apologies were received from Waynetta and Sweat Monster.

There was a little disappointment when we were told that we couldn't order tapas, and had to choose from the main menu. Sleepy was specially upset as he had printed out his own copy of the whole menu, including the tapas, and brought it with him. He was duly given the role of Menumaster in addition to his existing role of Cellarmaster. His menu did come in handy though, as we wrote notes on it for the write up. If only I were able to make sense of it!

There was some excitement when we realised that the cutlery was magnetic, and we played with it for several minutes. One of the waiters told us why it was magnetic, but I can't remember what the explanation was. Mind you, we had got through about 2 bottles of a rather yummy red by then.

HBK ordered some extremely delicious scrambled duck eggs and sausage which everyone enjoyed very much while he was looking the other way. Sleepy however only managed to order cold noodles with mango and crayfish, which was a bit of a let down. There were other dishes consumed, but as far as I can make out there's nothing in the notes about it, and as several bottles of vino were consumed and it was a few weeks ago, I can't remember what they were. This has of course nothing at all to do with my age.

Some discussion took place about whether an away-WASH to Loire would be a good idea, or possibly a WASHers picnic in July. While we were on the subject of days out, Sleepy went on to tell us that he'd recently visited Monkey World and saw lots of chimps, gibbons, oran outangs, small little hairy things and ring tailed lemurs. Apparently he has photos and it was lovely. He was in fact heard to say that it had more character than the average hasher. I think we were lucky to get him back, although I'm sure some would wish to debate that.

After several bottles of wine and a tableful of food HBK went home, Duvet, Sleepy and I went to the Hare on the Hill for a night cap. Sleepy then had to run for his bus. Duvet and I strolled into town and went to some club where you had to knock on the door to gain entry. We knocked (the door!) and were successful in gaining entry and purchasing some more alcohol. I think I got to bed at about 4am.

The next WASHers will be a first birthday party at the Clifton Sausage on Saturday the 27th May. Meet from 19.00hours. Birthday cake will be provided.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
