WASHers is back!

Hashing isn't only about being embarassing in public, wearing seriously unflattering jogging togs and drinking too much beer - some hashers drink too much wine, as well. The Wine Appreciation Society of Hashers - "WASHers" - was founded by Wet Wipe of the Bristol Hash House Harriers, the inaugural meeting being held on Thursday 26th May, 2005 at the Clifton Sausage. A lot of wine, (including two re-launches) has been passed since then.

The last WASHers, of which there is no known record, was at Sergio's in Frogmore Street, Bristol, on Friday, 20th July, 2007.

The 5th WASHers meeting was held on Friday 25th November at Aqua on the waterfront in Bristol, and a very trendy place it was too. This was possibly the reason for the shocked looks on the staff's faces when Sweatmonster and I walked in through the door, having been to the Shakespeare for a pre-lube beforehand. They were reluctant to allow us to our table until Max arrived and gave us some semblance of normality. Sleepy arrived a little late, having dozed off on the bus or something, but we all managed to get our order for food in just before the end of happy hour. And jolly nice food it was. The wine was excellent too. I think Sleepy and I polished off a couple of bottles of red between us, with Sweatmonster and Max sticking to white.

After the meal and 4 bottles of wine between us, Sweatmonster and Max called it a night, but Sleepy and I had woken up and we adjourned to the Bunch of Grapes for a couple more bevvies and some live music. As we arrived the band was just beginning to play Ace of Spades. It did improve however, with a Led Zep song somewhere in the rest of the set. We even got up to dance, which may indicate how much we'd had to drink!

Thankfully we got on the last bus, and Sleepy managed to stay awake long enough to pour me off at the correct stop. I guess that as he hasn't disappeared altogether he must have got off the bus at some point too.

No "odd" happenings this time (apart maybe from the dancing) but generally a very pleasant evening.

The next WASHers meeting will be on SATURDAY 21st January. Puki Jangut suggested La Tasca, Broad Street, Bath. BA1 5LP Tel 01225 466477. So be it.

Until then, a very merry Christmas to all WASHers and a very enjoyable new year.
