WASHers is back!

Hashing isn't only about being embarassing in public, wearing seriously unflattering jogging togs and drinking too much beer - some hashers drink too much wine, as well. The Wine Appreciation Society of Hashers - "WASHers" - was founded by Wet Wipe of the Bristol Hash House Harriers, the inaugural meeting being held on Thursday 26th May, 2005 at the Clifton Sausage. A lot of wine, (including two re-launches) has been passed since then.

The last WASHers, of which there is no known record, was at Sergio's in Frogmore Street, Bristol, on Friday, 20th July, 2007.

Welcome Autumn with a glass or six of vino, vin, vinho, Wein, gwin, plonk or wine among friends and sympathisers.

Date: Saturday, 30th September 2017. Time: evening.
Place: CJ's Coffee House and Deli, 14 Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol BS2 8DJ.

Hudson's Bar & Grill, Bath. 19/08/2005.

The third meeting of the Bristol WASHers took place on Friday 19th August at Hudson's Bar & Grill in the historical city of Bath.

The attendance was double that of the first meeting, and 2.666666 times greater than the previous meeting, with 8 (yes, eight!) WASHers present. (I'm sure someone will tell me if my 'O' level maths was ill deserved!)

Those present were:

Wet Wipe (Glugus Maximus)
Sleepy (Cellar Master)
Duvet (assigned the role of 'Corkscrew')
Puki Jangut (assigned the role of 'Waberdasher')
HBK (Wine Anorak)
Anne
Kerbcrawler
Stiffy

Apologies [but no excuse? - Ed.] were received from

Sweatmonster (Slops Monster)

It was an eventful evening, the venue being quiet, select and tasteful, at least at the beginning of the night! The food was extremely tasty, and as you can imagine, there was some discussion around the comment by Duvet that olives taste like sperm.

My notes say that Sleepy declined to experiment. Whether that was on food (he had some fishy stuff), women, beer or the wine I can't remember, but I'm sure someone will remind me. He also refused to order wine from anyone except the manageress, who he seemed to take quite a fancy to.

Stiffy was noted to be drinking Lager at one point.

HBK and Ann arrived late. In my notes it mentions the fact that they had been allowed to do something neither of them had done before. Whether that was before, during or after the WASHers meeting, and in fact what it was, I'm a little unclear about, as we were probably on bottle no.4 by now.

Puki Jangut appeared to be having a good time, sitting and smiling and chatting away as he does after a glass or five. He was however the first to leave, complaining that it had become very noisey and was full of Riff Raff. As it was around 10pm by this time, he did have a point, and the rest of us paid and followed him to the Star for another bevvy or two.

Sleepy mislaid his watch over the course of the evening and managed to miss his train home, so he, Duvet and I then went on to the Huntsman for a bit of a boogie. Except Sleepy went to sleep in the corner. After Duvet and I had finished boogying we woke Sleepy and took him back to Duvet's for a night cap of another bottle of wine between the 3 of us.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7pm, Friday 14th October [date since changed to 21st October - Ed.] at:
AL'S TIKKA GRILL
33 Ashton Road, Ashton Gate.

This is a BYO, so don't forget!

ALL welcome, but it might be a good idea to let me know if you're planning to attend so I can make sure they've got a table for us!
